Ohio State recruiting: Newly offered 2018 RB Jaelen Gill talks Buckeyes

One of Ohio State's most recent offers updates his recruitment.

This past Friday, we had the privilege in talking with one of Ohio State's most recent offers in 2018 RB prospect, Jaelen Gill. Jaelen hails from nearby Westerville and plays his ball at Westerville South High School. Only a high school freshman, Jaelen has seen his recruiting process explode recently. With an offer from Ohio State given this past week on June 3, look for more schools to jump on the bandwagon and offer Gill for his services.

As of now, Jaelen does not hold a ranking with 247Sports, but that will change as he enters only his sophomore season this fall. Currently, Gill holds offers from Ohio State, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Toledo among others. With so many offers from major schools and only having one year of high school football under his belt, there's no doubt Jaelen will be a highly coveted recruit for the next few years.

Check out what Jaelen Gill had to say to Land-Grant Holy Land below.

LGHL: How was the visit to OSU earlier this week? What were a few things that you got to do or see that really stood out to you?

Jaelen: The visit was great! As soon as my father and I arrived, we were given press passes. Coach (Greg) Gillum took us for tours and showed us around campus with Coach Fickell as well. One thing that stood out was being able to spend quality time with position coaches and how nice the facilities were.

LGHL: How did the offer go down? Which coach broke the news to you and what did they have to say?

Jaelen: It was weird. I was sitting in Coach Meyer's office and he was telling me that I was going to be a Buckeye so it was like I already had the offer, but later on, Coach Fickell was the one who told me I had the offer and that I could tell people it was official.

LGHL: Growing up minutes away from OSU how does it feel to receive and offer from the Buckeyes?

Jaelen: It feels great! I've been a Buckeye fan my whole life. It's a weight off my chest and a dream come true. I can breathe now knowing I have this offer.

LGHL: I know you have 3 years until you suit up on the college level, but what are you looking for in a school before you decide to verbal commit?

Jaelen: I'm looking for a place I can see myself living in for my college years. Also, a strength coach and college tutors I can connect with right away because I will be spending a lot of time with them.

LGHL: Recruits have been committing earlier and earlier recently, do you have a game plan set for when you would like to announce a college commitment?

Jaelen: I would like to commit either before or after my junior football season, but if the process goes longer, then I'm fine with that.

LGHL: What programs/schools are sticking out at the moment?

Jaelen: Ohio State obviously, Michigan State, Penn State, and Tennessee. I have visited all of those schools except Tennessee.

LGHL: So far, what has been your favorite part of the recruiting process? To go along with that, what is the worst part?

Jaelen: The visits are the best. The hardest part is talking to so many coaches and scouts everyday that call.

LGHL: Do you plan on attending any camps this summer?

Jaelen: I will be going to Ohio State on the 13th (June), Illinois on July 8th, and Purdue on July 9th. Also, I will be going to Football University's Top Gun camp July 15-18.

Thanks so much to Jaelen for his time and willingness to talk! To see Jaelen's highlights courtesy of Hudl, check out the video below:
