We take a look back at some of the big news that has emerged over the past couple of days.

These last couple of days have been the busiest recruiting days of the summer and there's plenty of stuff to talk about thanks to Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp attracting quiet a bit of top talent to Columbus to perform in front of the Buckeye coaching staff and take in the electric atmosphere the camp provides.

Torrance Gibson has the Buckeyes on top

Even though the Buckeyes picked up two commitments Friday night, I think the biggest news of the weekend was the impression they made on Torrance Gibson. The electrifying athlete had such a good time on his first ever trip to Columbus, that he has Ohio State as the new leader in his recruitment.

The main reason for the move the Buckeyes made this weekend was Urban Meyer. Gibson is very impressed with the work the Ohio State head coach has done with left-handed quarterbacks in the past (see: Tim Tebow) and thinks he fits perfectly into Meyer's offense.

Gibson also confirmed that he would be making his official visit to Columbus on Sept. 6, for the Ohio State-Virginia Tech game, instead of the Michigan game, which he mentioned as a possibility when we spoke after the camp Friday night. The early September visit makes more sense, as he is set to announce his college decision on Oct. 20.

Right now, I like Ohio State in this race, but it's by no means a lock. Gibson's recruitment has changed quite a bit over the past two weeks, as the Buckeyes weren't even thought to be a legitimate contender a couple of weeks back. However, it was huge getting him on campus for that first visit, and the Buckeyes are in pretty good shape as things currently stand. I still think Auburn and Tennessee are the top two contenders to steal Gibson away from the Bucks, with Miami, Central Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma still in the picture as well.

Two new commitments

While Ohio State didn't add any big name commitments Friday night, they did add two guys who have the chance to play a big role on the football team somewhere down the road.

I knew Josh Moore was high on the Buckeyes going into the visit, but I was not expecting him to commit on Friday night, as he was planning to take this visit, think about his decision for a couple of weeks, and then announce his college decision.

After striking out on top targets Chris Clark and Hale Hentges, the Buckeyes got the next best thing in Moore, who could be a very useful redzone threat down the road and is also a very good blocker, which is something Urban Meyer values in his wide receivers and tight ends. Moore will join Nick Vannett, Marcus Baugh, and Sam Hubbard in Ohio State's tight end corps when he arrives on campus next summer. Overall, I think this was a very solid pickup for the Scarlet and Gray. You can read more about what Moore brings to the table here.

It's also worth noting that this likely spells the end for CJ Conrad and Ohio State as I believe they will only take one tight end in this recruiting class, then go two in 2016, with Jake Hausmann and Luke Farrell being the most likely guys. They're in very good shape to get both at present.

With Moore, I knew there was a chance he would eventually be a Buckeye, so it wasn't too shocking, but I did not see a commitment from Cass Tech standout Joshua Alabi coming, especially last night.

While he's going to be a bit of a project, whether he plays on the offensive line or defensive line at the college level, he will have the chance to develop into a contributor to the football team. Most importantly, this furthers the in roads the Ohio State coaching staff has made at Cass, which used to be a Michigan pipeline. They landed Damon Webb last year and have offers out to Mike Weber (2015), Lavert Hilll (2016), Michael Onwenu (2016), and Donovan Peoples-Jones (2017).

It will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes are able to add more players from one of the top high school's in the state of Michigan in the coming years.

You can read what Alabi had to say about his commitment here.

Jonathon Cooper earns his offer, Lawrence Cager, too

I've thought Jonathon Cooper was an Ohio State caliber football player ever since I saw him work out at the Best of the Midwest Combine back in February, and have thought the same thing in the times I've seen him workout since the first major camp of the year.

He told me in February that if Ohio State ever offered him a scholarship, there was a relatively good chance that he would commitment on the spot. That didn't happen after he received his offer Friday night, but I can definitely see this recruitment ending in the very near future.

I would be stunned if Cooper didn't end up in Ohio State's 2016 recruiting class. It's always cool to see Central Ohio kids get the opportunity to play football for their hometown team.

The other big offer handed out Friday night was to massive (6'5, 200 pound) wide receiver Lawrence Cager, who grew up rooting for the Buckeyes and badly wanted to earn an offer from the Scarlet and Gray. He got his wish after the camp and immediately put the Buckeyes on the top of his list.

Cager would fill a big need for Ohio State if he eventually commits because they're really lacking big receivers who can play on the outside and compliment the stockpile of slot-receivers they have in their arsenal. He also recently earned offers from Tennessee and Alabama.

I'm not sure when this recruitment will end, but right now he's planning to announce at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in early January. I could definitely see something going down before that and really like where Ohio State stands right now. Things could certainly change, but I'm very much liking the Buckeyes' chances right now.

Drew Richmond, Jordan Whitehead watch, but don't workout

Not all of the uncommitted 2015 visitors worked out Friday night, namely offensive tackle Drew Richmond and defensive back Jordan Whitehead.

Richmond, who along with Matthew Burrell and Isaiah Prince are top offensive line targets for the Buckeyes, was seen hanging out with quiet a few people on the field Friday. He spent some time with freshmen offensive linemen Jamarco Jones and Demtrius Knox. He was also seen hanging out with Torrance Gibson during the camp.

Whitehead was talking to Urban Meyer, Mark Pantoni, and Braxton Miller on the field for a little while Friday night. He's one of the Buckeyes' top remaining defensive back targets in the class.

Both targets got to spend time with 2015 commits Jahson Cornell and Justin Hilliard on the field as well. Hilliard and Cornell have definitely emerged as the leaders of the "Elite '15" recruiting class since verbally committing to the Buckeyes back on July 2.

Ohio State is my current pick for both Richmond and Whitehead, but they'll be in tough battles in both races. Alabama and Tennessee are the other top contenders to land Richmond, with Alabama and Penn State being the top competition for Whitehead. Richmond plans to announce his decision on Sept. 9, and Whitehead plans to decide sometime later in the recruiting process.

A couple of other offers handed out

There were a few other prospects who received scholarship offers as a result of a good camp performance.

Cass Tech defensive back Lavert Hill earned himself an offer. He now has the opportunity to join former high school teammate Damon Webb in a future Ohio State defensive backfield. 2016 Michigan native offensive tackle Michael Jordan (no relation) also earned an offer thanks to a good showing at camp.

2017 wide receiver Trevon Grimes also received an offer from the Buckeyes. Grimes was very impressive at the camp and is one of the top receivers in his recruiting class. The Buckeyes are in early on the St. Thomas Aquinas star.

James Daniels deciding Thursday

Lost in the shuffle of all the Friday Night Lights hoopla, was offensive linemen James Daniels announcing he would be deciding between Ohio State and Iowa this Thursday.

Up until a few weeks ago, I thought Daniels was going to be a Buckeye, but over the past couple of weeks I have been hearing Daniels is leaning slightly towards choosing the Hawkeyes when it's time to make his decision know, so I've changed my pick.

I don't think this is a done deal just yet, but things are definitely look good for Iowa to land one of Ohio's top offensive linemen. It wouldn't be shocking to see him choose the Buckeyes either, however.

Ohio State now finds themselves in the lead for the five-star standout athlete.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) American Heritage athlete/quarterback Torrance Gibson finally made it to Ohio State for a visit yesterday and competed in Friday Night Lights, where he was up and down, but did look quite good throwing the football in parts of the camp.

Gibson has the chance to be a special player, whether it be at the quarterback spot or wide receiver if things don't work out under center. In fact, I think he could be a top five pick in the NFL draft if he focused exclusively on wide receiver; he's that special an athletic talent. I do think Gibson could successfully run Ohio State's spread offense as a quarterback, though.

It was huge to get him on campus for that first visit, and things went so well that he named the Buckeyes as his leader on the visit. He told us that Urban Meyer is one of the major reasons the Buckeyes are now in the lead.

"Urban Meyer is one of the best head coaches in college football. You have to respect that," Gibson told Land-Grant Holy Land. "But he also has proof because of his work with a left-handed quarterback who won the Heisman. Plus their spread attack offense works for me."

The "My list isn't changing anymore" part of his tweet is very interesting. One would think that he effectively committed if he wasn't going to change his list again.

In any event, the Buckeyes moved back into good position to land him, but there's a very strong chance this recruitment could stretch on for a couple of more months as his current decision date is set for October.

Gibson said he would like to make his official visit to Ohio State for the Michigan game in November after his camp performance last night.

Central Ohio star Jonathon Cooper talks about getting an offer from Ohio State.

Many of the state of Ohio's top players in the 2016 class were in attendance for Friday Night Lights camp last night and one of them walked away from the camp with a scholarship offer from the Buckeyes in Gahanna (OH) Lincoln defensive end/linebacker Jonathon Cooper.

The Central Ohio star already held offers from Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Toledo heading into the night, but received the one he wanted most after a solid camp performance.

"They offered me," Cooper said with a smile after the camp. "I did not commit. I'm going to take my time and will probably decide at the end of my junior season or the beginning of my senior season."

Cooper learned that he had an offer from Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

"Coach Johnson offered me at the end of camp," he continued. "I told him I was really excited and happy."

While he thought he performed well, he was a little surprised he got offered last night.

"I was kind of surprised," he admitted. "I thought I did a good job at the camp, but overall, I'm just really excited to get the offer."

Overall, Cooper said he had an enjoyable experience performing under the lights at Ohio Stadium last night.

"It was an amazing experience for me," he stated. "Just being around the coaches and getting a workout in. It was just great."

Cooper worked out as a linebacker and defensive end, but Ohio State is recruiting him as an end right now. He spoke to Luke Fickell after the camp, who had some good things to say about his performance.

"I worked out as a linebacker, then afterwards went over and did some 1-on-1's with the defensive line," he continued. "Coach Fickell talked to me afterwards and said I did an amazing job and really likes what I did."

Eric Glover-Wiiliams talks about his FNL performance and his commitment status with the Buckeyes.

Canton (OH) McKinley athlete Eric Glover-Williams is one of the top players in the state of Ohio's 2015 recruiting class. He became the first member of Ohio State's 2015 class when he committed to the Scarlet and Gray back in August of last year.

When he participated in Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp last summer, he may have been the camp's top performer. He followed that up with another very good performance, where he also got to meet a lot of fellow recruits, some of which will be his future teammates.

"This year's performance was pretty good. My ankle is a little bit tweaked, but I thought it went well," Glover-Williams said. "It was a great experience just being around everybody and meeting the players in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 recruiting classes."

Glover-Williams talked to Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs before the camp.

"When I first got here, I talked to him and we had a good time," he stated. "He told me to talk to Coach Coombs and he wanted me to play defense, so I played defensive back."

Last year he worked out on offense, but this year he played defensive back, a position he enjoys and is willing to play at the college level.

"I just like being on that island by myself and like to be able to depend on myself on that side," he continued. "It's something I would be looking forward to doing if I come here (to Ohio State). I want to play wherever I can get on the field first. It doesn't matter which position I play as long as I can help the team."

He has played quarterback for Canton McKinley the last two seasons, but is making the transition back to running back this season, under new head coach Thom McDaniels. The new head coach is already making an impact on EGW on and off the football field.

"I'm very excited to get back in the backfield where I was my freshmen year," he said. "Coach McDaniels is a great coach. He's very smart and has taught me a lot of things I didn't know about the game of football; also being a leader and a good person. He's a great coach. You can tell he likes to read books, study, and follow every little step."

It's well known that his commitment status has been up in the air recently. Glover-Williams isn't concerned about his standing with the Buckeyes, however.

"Most definitely," he said. "I'm still going to be a Buckeye. It's 'O-H'."

Cass Tech lineman Joshua Alabi talks about his commitment to Ohio State.

There were a couple of players on commitment watching heading into last night's Friday Night Lights camp, but Detroit (MI) Cass Tech offensive guard/defensive end Joshua Alabi certainly wasn't one of them.

The Cass Tech standout has been to Columbus multiple times, but the Buckeyes were never thought to be a top contender to land a commitment from him. However, he shocked the recruiting world and decided he wanted to be a Buckeye when he arrived on campus early Friday.

"When I got down here I looked at the campus, it felt like a family," Alabi said. "I talked to the coaches, prayed on it, and it just felt like the right decision."

Alabi's former teammate, Ohio State freshmen Damon Webb, was present when he gave the coaching staff the good news.

"I came up to him (Urban Meyer) with Damon Webb and told him I wanted to commit," he stated. "(Damon was like) 'go do it, go do it man' and when I committed, he was really happy for me and told me I would have a fun time playing here."

It's still unknown whether he'll play on the offensive line or defensive line when he arrives in Columbus next summer.

"I did offensive line and defensive line at the camp," he continued. "When I get here [for college], I'll need to determine which position I'll play."

Alabi is already planning on recruiting his Cass Tech teammates to play alongside him and Webb at Ohio State.

"Of course," he said. "I'm going to try and get Mike Weber to play here, defensive back Levert Hill, wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, and my other teammates."

He's most looking forward to learning from Ohio State's coaching staff.

"I'm looking forward to having a good coaching staff that will make me a better player and help get me to the next level," Alabi said when asked what he was most looking forward to at OSU.

Ohio State cornerbacks coach/special teams coordinator Kerry Coombs, who is the Michigan area recruiter, was very pleased that Alabi committed.

"When I told him, he was happy for me and was happy I was a Buckeye," Alabi said. "He just wants to get me on campus more."

Playing at Cass Tech has really benefited the standout lineman. While the school has sent many players to Michigan, the decision Alabi made wasn't too difficult.

"It's a great thing, because the coaches are pretty tough on us. They coach us up and tell me if I want to be the best, I can be the best as long as I put the work in," he explained. "They took me around the country and tonight it felt like the right decision. I made it, and it feels good."

Top 10 wide receiver Lawrence Cager talks about getting an offer from the Buckeyes.

Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff are looking to add some receivers who can play on the outside, and they may just have found their guy in Towson (MD) Calvert Hall wide receiver Lawrence Cager, who earned a scholarship offer from the Bucks following a strong showing at their Friday Night Lights camp Friday evening.

The 6'5, 202-pound wideout found out about the offer when he was eating dinner after the camp. He was very excited to earn the chance to play for his dream school at the college level.

"I was eating a cheeseburger and they came to my table and said, 'Hey Lawrence, we forgot to tell you that you have an offer to play at Ohio State'," he stated. "I almost spit out my cheeseburger in front of people, because I didn't know how to react. It was a funny experience."

Cager has also received offers from Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee in the past week, but the one from Ohio State was the biggest of them all. In fact, he now has the Buckeyes as the leader in his recruitment.

"I love Ohio State. It was my dream school growing up, so it's a big offer," Cager said. "They're definitely a top school right now and are probably number one on my list right now."

"It hasn't been too crazy for me, but there have been a lot of offers from Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee," he explained. "It was a hectic week, but [getting the offer from] Ohio State is definitely the highlight."

There's still some time to go in this race, however, as he doesn't plan on announcing his college decision until he takes part in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is set to take place early in Jan., 2015.

"Probably in the Army All-American game," Cager said when asked about a decision timetable. "I'll know the schools I'll be committing to before the game, so I'll let the coaching staffs know where I'm going."

While Cager has been to quite a few camps over the past couple of months, there was something that felt different when he was in Columbus.

"It just felt like family," he continued. "Coach Smith coached me like I was already an Ohio State receiver and held me in high regard. Being there with good friend Torrance was also great. We were just throwing the ball and having a good time together."

Cager is planning on spending the night in Columbus and will make the trip to Indiana tomorrow morning. Alabama, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee will likely be Ohio State's top competition to land a commitment from him.

Five-star QB/ATH Torrance Gibson threw after all underneath the lights in Columbus - and he didn't hide how much he loved his time there.

Just a few months back, it seemed like it'd be a long shot at best for Ohio State to wind up landing the services of elite athlete/quarterback Torrance Gibson. The Buckeyes had the commitment of Athens, OH native Joe Burrow, a more traditional (and arguably further along) passer than Gibson. And with the Buckeyes factoring in around fifth on a list of top schools, it looked as though Tennessee and Auburn were the teams to beat for Gibson's services.

But all along, just about everyone close to his recruitment felt that if Gibson simply got up to Columbus, there stood a chance his entire process could be turned upside down. The Buckeyes staff never lost sight of this goal, and after actually getting Gibson to make the drive from South Florida up to Columbus, the Buckeyes find themselves right back in the thick of things.

"I had a great time. I met a lot of people. I've seen a lot of new faces and I just had a ball," Gibson said about a Friday Night Lights camp that saw him participating, a bit unexpectedly, and smiling from ear to ear practically the entire time.

On why he decided to partake in the camp after previously telling recruiting reporters he'd be observing from the sidelines, "Coach fired me up. He was like, 'throw that rock, son.' So I had to come out here and do what I do best."

There wasn't any one thing Gibson was trying to show off. Besides having fun with it all, he made it clear he was mostly just making sure he was doing everything he needed to do to be successful as a QB in the drills: "I was kind of going through my motions, working on my drop step, working on my release. And all the things I need to work on as a quarterback."

The great time under the lights in the Horseshoe wasn't all that Gibson will reflect memorably on. "Everything [stood out to me]. Urban Meyer? He's a hyped coach. Every time I see him, he's juiced. When he saw me, he was eating, and he stopped and started jumping around. It was crazy, man. I had a fun time here," Gibson said.

"It was more [than I thought it would be]. The campus is beautiful. It was big, too. Columbus is a great place. Awesome stadium. And they're building more space. It's going to be crazy this year. I can't wait to come back to here," he added.

While there's still a lot that can happen between now and this fall, when Gibson had previously planned to announce, he didn't exactly hide that OSU will be shooting up his personal recruiting rankings the next time they're released.

"A lot of Ohio State fans will be happy after this list I put out. I don't want to release anything, but Ohio State fans are going to be really happy."

Urban Meyer and his staff have a relatively high batting average of sealing high profile recruitments' commitments on official visits. So when can the Buckeyes expect Gibson to present them the chance to reel in the five-star?

"I need to find a game. Probably the Michigan game," he said. Gibson later came back to clarify that he was closer in his planning than he initially let on, and that the Michigan game would more likely than not be the official visit he took to Columbus.
